The Treetops overlooks two waterholes, a salt lick
both of which attract a great variety of animals, which means guests
do not need to go out on safari. On clear days you can
even see the snowy peaks of Mount Kenya. The lodge boasts two photographic
hides at ground level at either end of the lodge to allow really
close shots of unsuspecting animals. It has 4 decks and a rooftop-viewing
platform.
Treetops Lodge is also famous
for its historical royal connection. One afternoon
in February of 1952, a young English girl climbed the fig tree as
a Princess , to descend the following morning as Queen Elizabeth
II --her father, King George VI had died during the night.
With the focus being game viewing the features
are simple and the dining area sociable with bench seating. Treetops
has 50 simply, cot-like rooms, designed like cabins
on board a ship, which have open balconies for viewing and photography,
shared toilet and shower facilities.
Coffee and liqueurs are served in the comfortable
lounge, which features picture windows and trees growing
through the building.
As the game comes to the lodge, no game drives
or walking Safaris are needed.
Children under 7 not permitted.
