The first lodge ever to be built in the Masai Mara but
recently renovated! Being strategically located in the direct path
of the migration, it offers the unmatchable experience,
at the peak of the Great Migration, of being absolutely
surrounded by a brimful crowd of herbivores, from August
to November (being lucky!).
Accommodation at Keekorok is in 100 rooms
in bungalows, single storey blocks and in comfortable shaded
chalets, with private verandahs. The liberal use of cedar wood,
pink and grey Sand River stone and other indigenous building
materials offset the green lawns and colourful bougainvillea.
Tastefully decorated with the finest linens
and furniture, the bedrooms provide calming views of the
plains and distant hills. Each bungalow has private bedrooms and
an a bathroom and veranda, which is shared by the guests in the
bungalow.
The lodge features a swimming pool, restaurant
and bar. The lodges' open-sided dining room provides stunning
views of the Mara.
The viewing deck over the hippo pool and
adjoining extensive walkways are a key feature allowing for viewing
directly into the game park.
For those wishing to fly into Keekorok, an excellent
light aircraft service operates between Nairobi, Mombasa
and Keekorok. Early morning and evening game drives can be arranged
at the lodge. Of course there is no better way to see the animals
and countryside than to drift over the plains in a hot air
balloon at dawn, culminating in that famous champagne-style
breakfast.
