The National Parks of Kenya
 
 


Kenya's parks and reserves are not fenced, except of Lake Nakuru National Park, and some parts of Nairobi National Park and Aberdares, so animals roam freely. Though they tend to stay within the boundaries, especially during fdry season, when cattle outside compete for water.

Aberdare

The Aberdares, running roughly 100km north south between Nairobi and Thomsons Falls, is part of the Aberdare Mountain Range which an isolated volcanic range that forms the eastern wall of the rift valley which forms the steep eastern edge of the Rift Valley. Game to be found in the park includes; elephant, lion, black rhino, waterbuck, gazelle, giant forest hog, genet cats, leopard, buffalo and the rare spiral-horned antelope known as the bongo.... more infos

Mount Kenya National Park

Mount Kenya is an extinct volcano straddled across the equator, and is Africa's second highest peak. The scenery is stunning and quite breathtaking. Nairobi National Park

The 117 km² Nairobi National Park is unique by being the only protected area in the world with a variety of animals and birds close to a capital city (driving time: 20 min.). Samburu National Reserve

Up in the north of Kenya, in the hot and arid lowlands beneath Mount Kenya, this game reserve was set up around the richest stretch of the Ewaso Ngiro River. In this region the permanent water and the forest shade on the banks draw plentiful wildlife in the dry season and maintain many of the less peripatetic species year-round.... more infos


Shaba Game Reserve

The Shaba National Reserve is a rugged wilderness featuring bubbling hot springs, rolling savannah, miles of scrub & desert and the Ewaso Nyiro River which supports a diversity of wildlife.
