Leleshwa Camp is situated on the north-eastern
edge of the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya, 4
hours driving time from Nairobi. Siana Springs Airstrip is only
20 minutes drive away. There is quick and easy access into the Maasai
Mara Game Reserve, either through Sekenani Gate (25 minutes) or
Oleleamutia Gate (45 minutes).
Leleshwa Camp is a small,
intimate camp, accommodating only up to 14 guests in 7 en-suite
luxury safari tents, nestled in a stream valley amongst
picturesque hills and rolling plains of the Masai Mara. The 20 x
14 feet tents all have ensuite bathrooms with flushing toilets and
hot showers. The large tents are insect-proof and
pleasantly furnished with thoughtful touches for your comfort.
Solar power provides lighting
inside the tents as well as charging facilities for electronic equipment.
Outside at night, hurricane lamps bathe the camp in a soft, warm
light and Maasai warriors are on patrol and escort guests to and
from their tents.
Attached to the large dining tent
is a comfortable lounge area, which houses the
bar and a small library where guests can relax and read
about the fascinating wildlife they have seen. Every night
the roaring campfire is lit by the mess tent, and here
guests relax under the expansive African night sky and let the sounds
of the bush wash over them.
Guests can enjoy day and night game
drives, guided bush walks and
community activities, including visiting a traditional
Maasai Manyatta (village), which are centred on the traditional
existence of the Maasai.
As well as a visible resident lion pride, which
can be heard from the camp on most nights, guests regularly spot
other predators such as leopard, cheetah and hyena close by.
Also seen frequently from camp on Siana
Community Conservation Area are elephant, buffalo and a
wide variety of plains game, including zebra and giraffe.
In addition night game drives yield unusual nocturnal species, including
porcupine, aardvark, spring hares, bat eared foxes and much more.
On guided bush walks from
the camp, guests can learn about the medicinal properties of plants,
different insect species and how to read different tracks and signs
left by animals - things that you might miss from a moving vehicle.
The Walking Safaris range in scope and nature from
an easy 3 hour walk across open plains to longer hiking safaris
through a range of habitats with fly-camping out
in the midst of the wilderness.
Leleshwa Camp is eco-friendly
and they have taken care to cause little disruption to our natural
surroundings. The luxury Kenya Safari camp works
close with local communities, to provide employment and support
including local primary school, access to drinking water and overall
planning and management of the conservation area.
During the rainy season (April/May) the camp
is closed.
